Eyebrow Dandruff Causes and Treatment

Dandruff is a chronic skin condition that generally occurs on the scalp and causes dry or scaly skin. Sometimes, it can grow in places aside from the scalp, i.e. the eyebrows. A fungus in oily skin secretions can cause dandruff or eyebrow dandruff. The fungus named Malassezia is associated with seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, eczema, and other skin diseases. This fungus can also cause irritation, redness, inflammation and itching.

Dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis are the two same chronic diseases that mainly affects the seborrheic parts of the body. Seborrheic dermatitis can affect the seborrheic areas as well as the scalp, and involves scaling or flaking and itchy skin, pruritus and inflammation. On the other hand, dandruff is limited to the scalp, and implicates flaking, itchy skin without much inflammation.

Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammatory condition that develops yellowish or white dandruff flakes on the scalp. The person with this condition will get greasy and yellowish patches with red and irritated skin. It is a common eczematous dermatitis developing in the skin areas that have many sebaceous glands, like anogenital skin, axillae, upper back, chest, face, eyebrows, and scalp.

The dermatologist treat the dandruff by reducing the inflammation and decreasing the amount of fungus. He may consult you to use an anti-dandruff shampoo that contains salicylic acid or coal tar, sodium sulfacetamide, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole rather than your regular shampoo. You can also treat your eyebrow dandruff by using the same shampoo.

Cause of Eyebrow Dandruff

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common cause of the dandruff and can be a chronic state in adults. It also causes cradle cap in the babies. This condition can also cause whitish and crusty scales, irritated and oily skin and a skin rash.

Contact dermatitis is another common reason of eyebrow dandruff. When you are using any shampoo or face wash, this condition can cause the eyebrow dandruff. You should try another face or hair product to avoid any adverse effects.

Treatment of Eyebrow Dandruff

The treatment of your eyebrow dandruff depends on its cause. This is the least discussed and the most common skin disease. Many people do not know that dandruff can also affect your eyebrows and eyelashes other than the scalp. Hair fall of your eyebrows is a symptom of eyebrow dandruff. You should try the following home remedies to treat your dandruff.

Tea Tree Oil:

This is the most efficient and beneficial remedy to prevent eyebrow dandruff completely. You can also use it onto your scalp to reduce dandruff. You can use tea tree oil, if you want to prevent it naturally. Just massage this oil on your affected area. Use diluted tea tree oil, as undiluted oil may cause allergic reactions. This oil helps in elimination eyebrow dandruff efficiently due to its excellent anti-microbial properties.

Almond Oil to treat flaky and dry eyebrows:

Persons with dry skin have more chances to acquire eyebrow dandruff. Massage with the warm almond oil is the best way to prevent scaly skin and dryness.

Egg Oil to prevent dandruff:

Egg oil is beneficial in maintaining the oil level in your skin that will prevent dryness and dandruff subsequently. This is one of the oldest and efficient methods to treat scaling and itching skin. Apply few drops of this oil to your eyebrows to prevent eyebrow dandruff and irritation.

Moisturize your eyebrows: Moisturize your eyebrows with an oil based cream that prevent the inflammation and dryness caused by dandruff. Hence, it is necessary to use the cream to moisturize your eyebrows.

Aloe Vera Gel:

Aloe Vera gel is the most used home remedy in most of the skin conditions. Apply fresh aloe vera on your eyebrows and let it dry. Wash it with normal water within 10 minutes. It is also helpful in reducing the hair fall of eyebrows.

Neem leaves and Fenugreek:

The neem leaves has been used to prevent various bacterial diseases. You can use it to cure dandruff and various skin diseases. The oils and acid contained in the neem leaves help in preventing dry and dead skin, and eliminate eyebrow dandruff completely.

Similarly, fenugreek is also used to cure dandruff in chronic condition. Hair fall is one of the most common symptoms of the dandruff. The amino acid contained in the fenugreek can eliminate the itchy, dry and red skin, and also prevent the occurrence of eyebrow dandruff in the future.

You can also gently rub your eyebrows with coconut oil to remove a thick scaly skin before treating it with the medicated shampoo. In case of chronic condition, you should consult with your best dermatologist to treat and control eyebrow dandruff.
